How to learn photography and paint with light:
Have you ever wondered how to create amazing photos with just a flashlight and a camera?
Well, that's exactly what some students from a school in the Bronx did in a workshop organized by Sigue Inventando | Art Studio.
The workshop was called Light Painting, and it involved using long exposure photography to capture the movement of light in the dark. Long exposure photography is when you set your camera to take a picture for several seconds. This way, you can capture things that are not visible to the naked eye, like stars, car lights, or fireflies.
But instead of using natural or artificial light sources, the students used flashlights to create their own light streaks. They waved, twirled, and drew with their flashlights in front of the camera, while their classmates held the camera still on a chair or table. The result was some stunning photos that looked like paintings made of light.
To take these photos, the students had to learn some basic concepts of photography, like the triangle of exposure. The triangle of exposure is made of three elements: ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. These elements control how much light enters the camera and how it affects the image.
To explain the exposure triangle in a simple way, you can think of your camera as a window. The ISO is like the size of the window: the bigger it is, the more light comes in, but also the more noise or grain you get in your photo. The shutter speed is like the time you open and close the window: the longer you leave it open, the more light comes in, but also the more motion blur you get in your photo. The aperture is like the shape of the window: the wider it is, the more light comes in, but also the less focus you get in your photo.
The students experimented with different settings of ISO, shutter speed, and aperture to create different effects with their light paintings. They learned how to adjust their cameras to suit their creative vision and express themselves through photography.
The best part is that they did not edit their photos at all.
What you see is what they captured with their cameras.
